Overview

The Project Director will provide leadership to cross-functional clinical research projects (or programs consisting of multiple projects) and their team members. The Project Director will be responsible for providing on-time, on-budget, and high-quality project results as well as motivating, training, and mentoring, team members; helping develop new business in existing and new lines of business; and enhancing customer relationships through delivering superior customer experiences. The successful applicant for this position will bring extensive experience leading complex projects and developing junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Leading complex projects and programs of related clinical studies
  • Conceptualizing the execution strategy for each component project
  • Guiding the preparation of project management plans and other governance documents
  • Recommending and implementing operational strategies
  • Recommending and executing risk management plans
  • Developing, implementing, or promoting new project oversight tools and techniques
  • Managing assigned project resources, including ensuring that project tasks are correctly assigned to staff and vendors
  • Managing project scope of work, including recognizing and negotiating changes in scope
  • Making strategic and tactical recommendations to customers to improve projects
  • Providing strategic and tactical guidance to team members and Rho management
  • Mentoring and providing training and orientation for team members
  • Managing team dynamics and providing frequent feedback to team members
  • Collaborating with customers to provide win/win solutions
  • Contributing to business development initiatives, including proposals, responses to RFIs, bid defense presentations, and support for expansion into new business areas
  • Providing oversight to Project Managers who are managing projects ranging in size and complexity from single service studies to large full scope, multiple protocol projects, global projects and/or portfolio of projects
  • Actively overseeing and mentoring other project management staff (which may include senior project management staff) and clinical monitoring staff

Qualifications

  • BS in life sciences or related field
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in clinical project management, at least half of which have been at a CRO managing progressively larger and more complex clinical research projects and programs
  • Substantial experience in rare disease product development, virtual pharma client work, and/or CNS preferred
  • Ability to identify issues within a project and lead the resolution within the team
  • Solid understanding of applicable clinical research and scientific concepts and regulatory requirements; e.g. Good Clinical Practice (GCP), International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) guidelines, regulatory agency regulations
  • Strong therapeutic and research experience, including ability to interpret study protocols and designs
  • Experience in conducting on-site monitoring visits and/or managing activities of a CRA team to achieve project deliverables
  • Superior leadership, negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, managers and customers
  • Success in rapidly changing, flexible environment, with ability to prioritize own workload, as well as that of project teams and client counterparts, to meet internal and external deadlines and escalate issues appropriately
  • Consistent record of long-term, high-quality project work and client relationships
  • Strong software and computer skills, including MS Office applications
