  • Overview

    Rho is conducting a search for a Vice President, Technology who will be accountable for defining and delivering technology strategy and capabilities for the company. This position is responsible for the systems designed to support the services offered at a fee to our clients, such as data collection and analytics, internally focused systems, and the company’s IT infrastructure, security, and technical support services. As a Contract Research Organization (CRO), Rho’s IT systems are critical to providing customer value and must operate reliably in a highly regulated environment.

     

    This individual will be responsible for providing oversight and direction to all Technology Services personnel and to Rho’s business leaders on strategy, standards, and opportunities for leveraging technology to further Rho’s business goals.  The Vice President, Technology will lead both technology operations and technology innovation through partnerships with functional business leaders.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide key contributions to the formulation of the company’s business strategies.
    • Proactively advise other senior leaders on the emerging technologies and trends that are most relevant to the industry, the company's goals and to clients’ evolving needs.
    • Help determine capital investment parameters, priorities, and risks for enterprise-wide technology initiatives to achieve Rho’s strategic goals and maximize the return on investment.
    • Establish an overall strategic framework for determining when to purchase software and in what form versus employing internal development efforts.
    • Develop an IT vision, strategy and a roadmap based on Rho’s business strategy and clearly communicate it to all stakeholders and lead the team and business partners in effective execution.
    • Ensure, on an ongoing basis, that current and planned technical architecture, investments and solutions are aligned with company strategic goals and the IT roadmap.
    • Prepare and monitor IT operational plans that address prevailing objectives and constraints.
    • Develop and execute an analytics program that will allow company business leaders to make data-based decisions.
    • Build strong relationships with all sectors and their leaders across Rho and develop a detailed understanding of their issues and challenges to determine if a technological solution will address the problem.
    • Drive the creation of standards for the Technology organization at all levels, from internal support to partner support.
    • Implement the most appropriate and effective Technology Services organizational design to support and engage with the business.
    • Lead a high performing team that is customer-service focused, anticipates business needs and fosters a culture of accountability and transparency.
    • Direct the design, planning, implementation, and maintenance of the IT infrastructure that supports the company’s operations and business applications.
    • Review, recommend, and oversee all vendors and managed service agreements for computing, telecommunications, IT services, and equipment.
    • Lead staff through all aspects of technology operations Establish metrics for managing effectiveness and for measuring the impact of Technology Services on the business.
    • Maintain processes and standards for system validation and compliance.
    • Establish appropriate service levels and the processes to ensure that service commitments are met.
    • Maintain oversight of all technology projects, ensuring that commitments are properly planned, staffed, monitored and reported.
    • Establish a comprehensive enterprise information security program to ensure the integrity, confidentiality and availability of relevant data.
    • Lead the design and implementation of an enterprise-wide disaster recovery and business continuity plan.
    • Establish and enforce technology-related policies, processes, portfolio management, development standards and methodologies.

    Qualifications

    • A bachelor’s degree is required; advanced degree in a related field, such as computer science, engineering and/or business (MBA) is preferred
    • At least 10+ years of progressive responsibility as an IT professional, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership position
    • CRO industry experience preferred
    • Demonstrated IT leadership experience in a changing environment
    • Experience negotiating and managing SaaS and other IT outsourcing partnerships and contracts
    • Leadership role in a privately-held, matrixed environment is preferred
    • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse leaders and build consensus around key initiatives and projects
    • Experience in a federated structure is preferred
    • Highly detail-oriented and technically proficient
    • Excellent judgment and ability to see problems and develop solutions
    • Demonstrated experience driving business growth through innovation
    • Action oriented personality who tackles issues when they first arise
    • Experience managing direct reports and providing coaching and development
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly visible and dynamic environment is critical; able to work effectively with ambiguity and incomplete information
    • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written; able to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences
    • Demonstrated experience with SaaS, cloud-based, and outsourced solutions through third party providers
    • Solid knowledge in emerging technologies, and the ability to apply these in the service of the company’s key business goals
    • Experience leading complex, major change initiatives; demonstrated skills in change management
    • Experience building an enterprise-level data analytics capability
