  • Overview

    Rho is conducting a search for a Vice President, Accounting/Finance who will be accountable for the day-to-day responsibilities for Rho’s Finance, Legal, and Proposals and Contracts functional areas.  This role will also be responsible for providing oversight and direction to reporting functional area personnel and to Rho’s business leaders on strategy, standards, and opportunities to further Rho’s business goals.   

    Specifically, the Vice President, Accounting/Finance will oversee the financial reporting and controls, tax, payroll, accounting systems, corporate accounting, risk management, cost projections and ensure all reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.  This role will also provide guidance and direction on proposals, client negotiations and invoicing, tracking and collection of payments, project budgeting, changes in work scope and will be responsible for ensuring strong client relationship are built in the critical early stages of new client development and throughout the relationship with ongoing clients. 


    • Maintain consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures throughout Rho’s business portfolio, upholding federal, state, and local legal standards by remaining knowledgeable about existing, new, and future legislation; ensure consistency throughout organization.
    • Manage all accounting operations including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, payroll, cost accounting, financial reporting, business insurance, timesheets, tax, risk management, and revenue recognition.
    • Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and workflow and revise, as necessary in accordance with GAAP.
    • Responsible for the timely and accurate financial reporting for the consolidated business units and ensure statements are consistent with US GAAP.
    • Analyze all significant contracts to ensure they are accounted for in compliance with GAAP requirements.
    • Determine and document the Company’s position on technical accounting and financial matters.
    • Lead monthly accounting, reporting and forecasting processes; perform/review monthly variance analysis and results of operations; publish timely monthly financial statements.
    • Work closely with external auditors to gain agreement on accounting plans.
    • Drive continuous improvement of financial reporting, risk management, and tax practices to scale with the Company’s growth.
    • Enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets
    • Continue to build-out finance capacity and capabilities, including headcount, systems, and policies.
    • Support and lead month-end and year-end close process.
    • Review and approve weekly payments to vendors.
    • Manage all legal operations to ensure entity compliance and serve as a point of escalation for in house attorneys.
    • Work closely with business development by leading commercial contracts and proposals to ensure appropriate, competitive budgets, delivery of quality, on-time RFP responses, equitable changes in scope and to ensure Rho’s business interests are protected.
    • Build relationships internally and develop a detailed understanding of internal challenges and issues in an effort to resolve. 
    • Partner with various subject matter experts to manage key relationships including the 401(k) Committee, Healthcare Committee, auditors, and various other key partners and stakeholders.
    • Participate in and lead calls with clients on financial matters.
    • Ensure that the company’s insurance requirements are adequate to meet the current and forecasted growth of the company.
    • Lead a high performing team that anticipates business trends; provide career development and create an environment of trust and productivity.


    • BS/BA in Business, CPA/MBA preferred
    • 15+ years of progressive responsibility in financial roles in CRO/pharmaceutical companies, including at least 10 years in leadership roles
    • Experience negotiating and managing client contracts
    • Leadership role a privately-held, matrixed environment is preferred
    • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse leaders
    • Highly detail-oriented and technically proficient in US GAAP
    • Excellent judgment and ability to see problems and develop solutions
    • Demonstrated experience driving business growth through innovation
    • Action oriented personality who tackles issues when they first arise
    • Experience managing direct reports and providing leadership and coaching and development
    • Previous experience working with clients who are federal government agencies is a plus
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly visible and dynamic environment is critical; able to work effectively with ambiguity and incomplete information
    • Superior communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation)
    • Ability to influence and lead across functions; operate in a matrix environment
    • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
