Rho, Inc. has an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and talented individual to provide leadership and growth on federal research projects and programs in the role of research scientist or statistical scientist. Rho is a mid-size Contract Research Organization working with federal, pharmaceutical, and biotech clients. For its federal clients, Rho provides full service, coordinating center services to large, multi-center clinical trials and observational studies in the areas of asthma and allergic diseases, autoimmune diseases, and organ transplantation. Most studies have significant mechanistic components that investigate genetic, epigenetic, transcriptomic, metabolomic, and microbiome variables as predictors or mediators of clinical health outcomes. For this position, Rho is seeking a person with experience in mechanistic investigations to provide support to Rho’s portfolio of federally funded studies.


  • Act as scientist or statistician on one or more federal contracts or grants, with a focus on asthma and allergic disease studies that incorporate mechanistic and –omics data. The scientist typically works with other Rho research scientists and project staff to manage the operations of projects and programs and to report research findings, including in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Provide expertise across projects and programs in research design and analysis, particularly analysis of data from multiple “omes” such as genome, transcriptome, proteome, metabolome, lipidome, and microbiome. Research methodologies might include determining clustering algorithms for cross-sectional and longitudinal transcriptome and microbiome data, machine learning algorithms for predictive modeling, integrative analyses of multiple high-dimensional data sets including dimension reduction techniques, network analyses, relative importance analysis, and module detection methods.
  • Provide expertise to individual projects within a program, for example:
    • Participate in protocol development conference calls
    • Participate in writing or reviewing study protocols
    • Participate in ongoing study operations
    • Lead or contribute to efforts to publish (posters, presentations, manuscripts) in area of expertise
  • Mentor and advise staff in area of expertise. Provide strategic and tactical guidance to team members. Create a strong sense of team unity and team identity. Provide regular and ongoing positive and corrective feedback to team members.
  • Participate in business development activities, including assisting in the identification and assessment of new opportunities and writing technical/research strategy sections of proposals and applications.


  • PhD or other doctoral degree in biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, microbiology, or other analytical or biological science field.
  • 1-3 years of experience working on scientific research projects in the -omics field preferred.
  • Clinical trials or observational experience in asthma and allergic diseases preferred.
  • Strong presentation and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels both within and outside the company.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities with exceptional organizational and time management skills (both project and self).
